Madeline Lathangue Mr. Doucette American History 09 January 2017 The Brilliance that is Oprah Winfrey Oprah Gail Winfrey, is undoubtedly as superior leader. The type of leader mothers talk to their daughters about, the kind of leader that is one of a kind. The kind of leader that you can not even wrap your head around their strength and power. Oprah is also the kind of leader that came up from nothing. Born to a single, young teenage mother, Oprah has built and deserves everything she is now. A role model to any race, gender, or sexuality, Oprah Winfrey has captured the hearts of millions. A woman who has overcome several obstacles that have fallen her way, she is not only an entertainer but a friend to humankind. Born on January 29th 1954†¦show more content†¦Oprah became both the youngest and first black female news anchor in Nashville. And from then on, it was only up for Oprah. From there she moved to Baltimore in 1976, to co-anchor the six oclock news. Only a year after, she was removed from co-anchor, and worked lower position jobs as the news station. Oprah was recruited shortly after, and began to co-anchor People are Talking with Richard Sher. In 1983, Winfrey moved to her current headquarters, Chicago. There, she would host AM Chicago. Quickly, the show became the highest rated talk show in Chicago. With her dreams in grasp, movie critic Roger Ebert persuaded her to sign with King World, where her show was renamed The Oprah Winfrey Show, and was extended to an hour. Her show was then broadcast nationally, and aired on September 8th, 1986. The Oprah Winfrey Show was at first classified as a tabloid-talk show, but in the mid 1990’s Oprah attempted to change that image. Winfrey attempted to grasp a less 2tabloid oriented format, and began to host shows on more broader topics.
